The following is a pictorial history of Balheimer family events for 2002, the Year of the Horse. DecemberJanice and I hope you had a Merry Christmas and extend to you the wish for a very Happy New Year! I was rummaging around and found an old picture of Janice and I when we were dating in 1986. The picture was taken at Guam where I was stationed while Janice and I were in the Navy. Contrast that picture where we were living the high life on the beautiful Guam beaches (we spent every waking moment on the beaches!) to our picture taken this Christmas. We may be a few years older and a few pounds heavier--but we still love each other!
NovemberI am unable to extend a Happy Thanksgiving to all this year as I most unhappily have to tell you that Janice's father's new wife, Mrs. Betty Blair passed away the evening of the 29th of November 2002 due to medical complications. OctoberOn the 31st, Janice's father Jefferson (Zitoe) Blair was married to the beautiful Betty White Hudson by Chaplain Reverend Richard J. Johnson in Grants Pass Oregon. Zitoe, a spry 84 years old married Betty, herself a young 84 years old after over ten years of courting her. Congratulations to the both of you! So far October has been a hot month here in Northwest Florida. I believe the summer decided to stick around and skip fall completely! Last month we were brushed by Tropical Storms Hanna and Isidore, which gave us over 20 inches of extra rain that we very much needed, and finally early this month we had Hurricane Lili that (luckily for us) went west of us. Ok, enough with this years hurricane season, personally I'm ready for fall and cooler weather!! As far as family events go, my son James is still in Afghanistan--he is doing very well considering the circumstances and we hear from him at least once a week via phone. And our very good friends the McCarty's are now stationed in southern Florida at Patrick AFB. They are settling in and the other day Brian got to see the latest space shuttle launch live! More as the month moves on... SeptemberSo far September has been (thankfully) a quiet month. We have actually had some rain courtesy of Tropical Storm Hanna and at the time of this writing we are waiting to see what Hurricane Isidore is going to do (hopefully not come to Northwest Florida!). My son James who is currently stationed in Kandahar, Afghanistan is fine, and has been calling us on a regular basis. An editor of our local news paper--the Pensacola News Journal--wrote an excellent article about his own sons who are in the military, one of whom is station with my son with the 82nd Airborne in Afghanistan. And unfortunately for me, my best friend Brian McCarty and his lovely family are transferring from this area to Patrick Air Force Base near Cape Canaveral Florida. So this month Janice and I have been visiting them and saying our good byes. The good side to this story is they will only be a 7 hour drive away--and I have always been looking for an excuse to visit Cape Canaveral! Here are some pictures of the McCarty's that bring back very fond memories to me.
AugustAugust was a very happy month for us! JulyMy son, Specialist 4 James Daniel Balheimer went to Kandahar, Afghanistan with the Army's elite 82nd Airborne. Go Airborne! My wife Janice and myself went to Ft. Bragg, North Carolina to see James before he deployed. JuneJune was another busy month. Dale had his birthday (he won't tell) and we visited his son James who is with the Army's 82nd Airborne unit in Ft. Bragg, NC.
MayMay was a busy month for us! Janice and I took a few days off and vacationed in Orlando Florida to re-experience the fun of Universal Studios! To top it off, we pampered ourselves and stayed on Disney World at the world famous Disney Contemporary Resort. Wow!
AprilApril was a very quiet month for Janice and I.. rest and relaxation! MarchIn March, Janice and I had family photographs taken--including our cat Mei Lee. Felix and Emmy have had their picture take with us before, so we figured it was time to get a picture of Mei Lee with us.
FebruaryHockey!Go Pensacola Ice Pilots! My friend Brian (his first hockey game!), myself, and the gang from my company TECHSOFT, went en mass to watch the Pensacola Ice Pilots beat the Louisiana IceGators 4 to 3! It was a great game, with both teams playing their hearts out--but in the end the Ice Pilots took the game! Here are some great pictures from this fun event!
Mardi Gras! This is Mardi Gras season here in this part of Florida. Janice and I, and our good friends the McCarty family had an outstanding time at the Pensacola Beach Mardi Gras parade! Here are a few pictures from that fun day!
JanuaryThe old west...The new year has started with a bang! Janice and and Trish got their pictures taken old west fashion. Janice, being the ham, dressed up as a Chinese peasant (honoring her ancestors).
The Pensacola Naval Aviation MuseumBrian, his two sons Andrew and Raymond went with me (Dale) to the Pensacola Naval Aviation Museum and spent the complete day enjoying the aircraft. I enjoy going there every time! Brian and the boys were in awe as it was their first visit.
Janice's Birthday! And Janice had her birthday (you ask her for her age.. not me!). A bunch of our friends celebrated her birthday eating a ton of Japanese food (sushi and sashimi!) and having a great time.
